Once again typing on my trusty but a little bothersome laptop... Haish...
Well, as your probably have already known from my previous few posts, School holidays are finally here! HAHA... so I mentioned that I have been spending my time organizing the files on my computer. Well, today, I did not really do that... In fact, what I really did was to complete the entire season 1 of Mr Brain! HAHA! okay, now that is partially true. Out of a total of 8 episodes, I've completed 7 episodes in less than a day! Biggest accomplishment thus far (I believe...)
Mr Brain is simply a really brilliant drama with just the correct amount of teary moments, spine tingly moments, humorous moments and the right amount of chemistry between the main characters. Simply beautiful! Also, who can ever forget the Original Sound Tracks (OST)? Everything is so well written! From the plot to the musics. Brilliant! It can so totally beat any of those cheesy cliche Korean drama ANY day. Props to the directors, producers and actors for such a brilliant piece of drama. HAHA! Okay, now this is really just my personal stand. And seeing how poor the quality the dramas shown in Singapore, this kind of standard is really mind blowing! I mean the relationship between the characters are able to hint to the viewer that something might JUST bloom, but during the entire course of the show, nothing ever progress (as far as it can be seen on the screen), but the show continuing hinting it just that no actual evidence is shown that there is something actually going on. The drama is super focused on what it is suppose to be showing which is solving the case instead of showing and investing screen time on those nonsensical, unnecessary romantic fluff (something that I really like about Japanese dramas). As such, the drama is not only up-paced and not draggy but also super juicy.
Now, at first, I was reluctant to start on the drama although I heard pretty good comments about it. Now why is that so? Cause just like other normal teenager, I was only interested in dramas that the idol I adore is acting in. And looking at Mr Brain, at the current moment, I wasn't really into ANY of the characters (at that moment, and still do, I'm insane over Toda Erika and Matsumoto Jun) so I gave it a pass. But recently, I started to watch more dramas that don't have them acting in and also listened to more musicians and slowly, I got hooked to KAT-TUN (specifically Kamenashi Kazuya) and Gackt. And through the wheels of fate, I saw a snippet of an episode of Mr Brain that featured Gackt as a cannibal who after killing his victim would sever their limbs and eat it. He was, however, soon apprehended and brought to prison for his trial and all. And one of the scenes that was shown was that during his psychiatric examination, the examiner(?) asked him why do he consume human flesh, and he casually replied
"WHY do you eat beef?"and then stabbed the examiner's hand with the pen. And while the examiner was yelling in obvious pain, Gackt pounced on him. After that, it was shown that Gackt tried to bite the fingers off several guard till they had to put some weird mask on him when he was out of his cell. After which, it was said that Gackt bit off his fingers. During his execution, when asked for any last words, he just said (sadistically)
"I'll be called back from the dead (laughs) I will kill you all and come feast upon your flesh (side glance to an officer) I will definitely be reborn"Sad to say, Gackt somehow really fit that character! I was super intrigued by how well he fit the role, but still that did not serve as a motivation to make me watch the drama. So I just breezed past it. Today, I finally came upon the very same video, and this time, I felt like perhaps I should watch the drama, especially since the episodes are so conveniently uploaded on Youtube in running order with FULL English subtitles (because I still can't understand Japanese yet). So I begun on the episode that featured Gackt, episode 2 which dictated about the "reappearance" of Gackt (playing the role of Takegami Tejiro) fingerprints and style of crime 3 years after his execution making many believe that he had indeed resurrected from the dead (like what he promised before he was executed) especially since the deceased was those who was related to the seemingly 4th case that Gackt did. However, it soon was proven that Takegami Tejiro did not resurrect. The crimes were committed by another person who was indirectly related to the "4th murder". So after that episode end, while it was rolling the 'ending credits' and the preview to the next episode, guess who I saw? Kamenashi Kazuya! Instantly I knew that I had to watch the 3rd episode, which when I did, it seriously blew me away. After episode 3, I saw how interesting episode 4 looked. And I begun on episode 4. The case in episode 4 did not end at episode 4, it pulled into half of episode 5 and slowly slowly, I was so drawn into the whole drama that I just can't stop. It was so full of excitement and FRESH ideas. Seriously. All the crime were either well planned, or just way too complicated for a normal person to figure out. Even when you THINK you know the motive and everything, they will somehow always be able pull out their Ace card from their sleeves and laugh at you as you see (with your jaw drop) the real truth unravel. Marvelous story!
And to add to their ingenuity, every episode starts with either an "experiment" which will in one way or another lead to the eventual solving of the crime. Brilliant thinking and it really demonstrates how knowledgeable the writer of the show is!
Not to forget the Original Sound Track (OST)! It is beautifully written and composed. Especially those composed/chosen specially for episode 4 and first half of 5! Those were uber breath taking. Not only the actor that acted his part as a pianist with memory disorder but also the pieces that he "composed". I find it really a pity that none of those songs can be found on Youtube or Google/: its really such a pity... Or is it that I'm not searching hard enough? Either way, I'm a little disappointed...): ... *le sigh*
Anyway, as this is not suppose to be a summary of the show, I will not type out explicitly what will happen therefore no spoilers. However, I'm super tempted to do so! HAHA. We'll see how it goes (: I MIGHT most probably write a short write up per episode just to keep my typing skills and English skills up to standard(: LOLOL, regardless, I would highly recommend EVERYBODY to watch this drama at least once through. Not that I want to boast, but when it comes to detective dramas, Japan is really able to capture the feel of suspense in it! Highly recommend everybody who comes upon this post to watch it whenever possible(:
Well, that will really conclude this post on Mr Brain! Hopefully there will be a season 2 to this awesome series :D
JYAN!
